As the weather warms up and customers move back into courtyards, decks and outdoor dining spaces, drinks menus have an opportunity to lighten up too.

Bright citrus, tropical fruit, fresh herbs, spice and plenty of colour all suit the season - and tequila provides a versatile base for bringing those flavours together.

Founded in 1795, Jose Cuervo has become synonymous with tequila and the ever-popular margarita, but there’s much more opportunity beyond the classic. From light, refreshing spritzes to richer after-dinner cocktails, Jose Cuervo Tradicional Reposado and Tradicional Silver give bars two very different flavour profiles to work with.

Go smooth and rich with Reposado

Jose Cuervo Tradicional Reposado spends a minimum of two months in toasted oak barrels, developing aromas of cooked agave alongside vanilla, oak and honey.

Those sweeter caramel and oak notes make Reposado particularly versatile. Think of it in a similar way to an aged whisky or rum: it can handle deeper flavours such as coffee and cacao, while still working beautifully with fresh fruit, spice and citrus.

For spring, try taking it in two very different directions.

Matador

Fresh, tropical and just a little spicy, the Matador uses pineapple and lime to balance the richer character of Reposado. Finish it with a chilli salt rim for added flavour and visual impact.

Ingredients

  • 45ml Jose Cuervo Tequila

  • 45ml pineapple juice

  • 20ml fresh lime juice

  • 10ml sugar syrup

  • Chilli salt rim

The sweetness of pineapple works particularly well against the oak and agave notes of Reposado, while lime keeps the drink fresh and bright.

Tequila Espresso Martini

Tequila also brings something new to a familiar after-dinner favourite.

Ingredients

  • 40ml Jose Cuervo Tequila

  • 20ml Kahlua

  • 1 espresso shot

  • Dashes of cacao bitters

Reposado's warm, velvety character is an easy partner for coffee, cacao and other bitter flavours, creating a richer alternative to the traditional espresso martini.

Keep it bright with Silver

For cocktails that call for freshness and energy, Jose Cuervo Tradicional Silver brings the clean, vibrant flavour of agave to the glass.

Because it doesn't spend time in oak, Silver retains a sharper, peppery profile with plenty of freshness. That makes it particularly well suited to citrus, herbs, chilli, jalapeño, ginger and tropical fruit - giving bartenders plenty of room to experiment with seasonal flavours.

Paloma Spritz

Spritz-style drinks continue to work brilliantly for afternoon and outdoor drinking occasions. The Paloma Spritz combines tequila with grapefruit soda and prosecco for something bright, crisp and highly refreshing.

Ingredients

  • 45ml Jose Cuervo Tequila

  • 15ml fresh lime juice

  • 90ml East Imperial Grapefruit Soda

  • 90ml Prosecco

  • Pinch of salt

Finish with fresh herbs to bring another seasonal dimension to the serve.

El Diablo

For a fruitier long drink with a little more depth:

Ingredients

  • 45ml Jose Cuervo Tequila

  • 15ml Crème de Cassis

  • 15ml fresh lime juice

  • 90ml ginger beer

The combination of berry, citrus and ginger gives the Silver tequila plenty to work with while keeping the drink lively and refreshing.

Blanco Negroni

Tequila can also put a fresh spin on established cocktail favourites.

Replacing gin with Silver tequila brings earthy, peppery agave notes to the Negroni format, while Aperol keeps the drink lighter and more citrus-driven.

Ingredients

  • 20ml Blanco Tequila

  • 20ml Aperol

  • 20ml dry vermouth

  • Lemon twist to serve

It's a simple way to introduce something different without asking customers to move too far away from a cocktail style they already recognise.

Give your spring drinks list a fresh twist

The strength of tequila is its versatility. One bottle can move from tropical and refreshing to spicy, bitter or rich depending on the ingredients around it.

For hospitality operators, that opens the door to a drinks list that feels seasonal without becoming overly complicated: use citrus and botanicals for lighter afternoon serves, fruit and spice for vibrant long drinks, or coffee and cacao for something suited to later in the evening.

This spring, look beyond the classic margarita and explore how Jose Cuervo Tradicional Reposado and Silver can bring fresh flavour, colour and variety to your cocktail menu.
